They must have a thorough understanding of all aspects related to importing and exporting goods, including tariffs, duties, licenses, and permits. Office assistants must also be proficient in using software such as Excel or Google Sheets for tracking shipments, preparing invoices and purchase orders.

Office assistants are responsible for maintaining accurate records of all imports and exports carried out by the organization. This includes ensuring that all necessary documents such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists and certificates of origin are properly recorded and filed.
